Although Mallette and Kyle live in Seattle, Washington, DC was an incredibly special place for both of them, and is where they chose to celebrate their wedding day. Mallette has an incredibly refined and French chic style, and everything about their wedding day represented this stunning elegance. The modern European design only helped to accentuate the overflowing love and joy that radiated through the Meridian House as these two came together with their friends and family to celebrate a marriage that has been so many years in the making.
From the Bride:
Tell us how you and Kyle met?
We met studying abroad in Sydney, Australia. We were in the same program and Kyle lived in the apartment directly above Mallette. Kyle put in many hard hours training for a marathon with Mallette so they could have more quality time together.
Would you like to share anything about your wedding planning experience together? Is there any advice you’d love to give future couples about planning a wedding together?
To be honest, we did not really enjoy the planning part of the process, but we absolutely LOVED our wedding. Being very particular and analytical people, we struggled with the decision-making. Neither of us had any real concept of how many decisions there would be! On top of that, the pandemic certainly complicated things. In the end, I would say that hiring a planner wouldn’t have completely relieved any angst about decision making if you want things done a certain way. However, they might be helpful in suggesting ideas or doing the project management involved in wedding planning. There is a ton of follow up to make sure everyone is on the same page about your vision, doing tasks in a timely manner, and executing things the way you expected. If you’re not totally confident you can do that and it’s in your budget, I would hire a planner.
Which detail(s) did you like the most about your wedding?
That it focused on our families and reflected who we are as a couple. Having a relatively intimate wedding where we got to spend time with everyone. The gorgeous venue and incredible weather definitely added to the perfect vibe!
What were some of your favorite moments from your wedding day? Did anything funny happen? What made you laugh or cry?
Everything. I don’t know how many people get to say this about their wedding day, but we wouldn’t change a thing and had the BEST time! Our siblings were our bride/groom party so we got ready with just our families which was very fun and relaxing since everyone gets along great. Having fewer people also means less people to keep track of and things run smoothly. Our parents and siblings also gave the most honest, hilarious and incredible speeches – but we had no control over that so we can’t take any credit. It was a true celebration of the people who made us who we are and the joining of two families. Kyle’s sister also sang our first dance and his mother made all of our decorations (excluding flowers). So we really highlighted everyone’s talents.
If you could remember one thing from your wedding day 10 years from now, what would you hope it would be?
The overall feeling of love, happiness, and sureness about the commitment we made with our closest friends and family to support us through the years ahead.
Are there any images that really stood out to you? If so, why?
All of the intimate moments between us as a couple, sweet moments with our families, and everyone’s facial expressions during hilarious moments like the speeches. You seemed to understand very quickly who people are and captured that so accurately.
Describe how you felt when you first saw your wedding gallery:
Overwhelmed with joy – it felt like we got to relive the entire day! You must’ve been running around everywhere because you captured everyone’s facial expressions so accurately. These are the most gorgeous photos of us and you captured the love and happiness of the day so perfectly.
