For those of you who don’t eat, sleep, and breathe wedding photography, a truly tragic incident took place in early 2021 for most film wedding photographers. No, not the global pandemic and temporary shutdown of the wedding industry – the discontinuation of Fuji 400h Film. While this means very little to anyone outside of the film wedding world, it was a serious blow to quite a few wedding photographers, and for nearly two weeks, every single photography group and message board that I was a part of was in panic.
Why this matters? Ultimately it doesn’t, because between finding a skilled photographer and trusting that they know their editing style and communicate regularly with their film lab, you’re going to always end up getting the most high quality and consistent result as a client. However, when I realized, like so many other film wedding photographers, that I’d now have to switch to a slightly different film stock for my wedding photos, I wanted to make sure to learn how to do so from the best. Luckily, Clay Austin, an amazingly talented Charleston-based photographer, happened to shoot the film stock I was hoping to learn, and I was lucky enough to get to travel down to one of my favorite costal cities for a day of learning with him! He and his incredibly talented team of hand-selected local vendors put on a stunning shoot blending my modern taste with the historic elegance of Charleston, and I couldn’t be more excited to share the resulting images with you all!
