Katharina and Andrew’s Epic Wedding Celebration
Katharina and Andrew hosted an epic Austrian wedding on the serene shores of Lake Wörthersee in Velden am Wörthersee. With unforgettable pre-wedding events leading up to the big day, the wedding itself was nothing short of spectacular.
Romantic, personal, and so much fun, photographing the entire weekend was an absolute blast! Now, I’m excited to share the beautiful images and stories with you. Plus, get some inside tips on planning your own dream Austrian wedding.
The Wedding Day
The Couple
Missed my last blog about these two? Meet Katharina and Andrew, a New York-based couple with deep connections to Velden am Wörthersee. Hosting their wedding in Austria was a no-brainer – It allowed their US-based guests to experience this special place and made it all the more meaningful for Katharina’s Austrian family to be a part of their wedding.
The Venue
After an amazing weekend of pre-wedding celebrations, Katharina and Andrew culminated the festivities with a beautiful wedding at the picturesque Villa Bulfon.
Villa Bulfon is a chic Swiss-style hotel situated right on the shores of Lake Wörthersee, offering what seemed to be an authentic Austrian experience. It was traditional yet luxurious, rustic but refined.
With its tranquil tree-lined lakefront, it’s the perfect spot to unwind and soak in the stunning surroundings.
The Details
As a graphic designer at Rent the Runway in the city, I knew that Katharina would have fabulous details, and she definitely delivered.
Working alongside the talented calligrapher, Amelia Adams, Katharina designed everything herself, from the invitations to the matchbox favors and cocktail signs, and let me tell you, they were nothing short of impeccable.
The invitations had a sweet and romantic touch, with a bold twist featuring deep navy envelopes. It was evident that every detail was thoughtfully crafted to perfection.
Getting Ready & First Look
Katharina and Andrew each had their own suite at Villa Bulfon to get ready. Andrew looked handsome in a custom-made tuxedo from Stephen Kempson London, and Katharina looked simply radiant in her chic gown from Amsale.
The first look was one of my favorite moments of the day. They decided on a private and beautifully backlit arbor on the property, and it was such a personal and sweet experience that even I couldn’t help shedding a few tears, just like everyone else!
The Ceremony
The couple chose to host their wedding on the picturesque pier of the lake. With the stunning blue waters and scenic backdrop, and the vibrant, bold arbor as a centerpiece, the setting was truly flawless.
As luck would have it, the light rain began to fall just before the ceremony, but it soon stopped as Katharina walked down the aisle. This unexpected touch of rain added a super romantic feel to the entire event, and it even created some magical lighting for our portraits by the lake later on.
After the heartfelt ceremony, the couple treated their guests to a delightful cocktail hour. To add a unique touch, they served drinks from the cutest vintage truck/beverage cart, adding a touch of charm to the celebration.
The Reception
After a fun-filled cocktail hour, the real party began. The couple hosted it under a stunning white tent on the lawn of Villa Bulfon, creating a romantic and festive ambiance. If you couldn’t already tell from the pre-wedding celebrations, this couple knows how to throw a party, and the reception was no exception.
The atmosphere was lively, the music was loud, and the festivities carried on late into the evening. It was an all-out celebration that left everyone with unforgettable memories.
Hosting Your Own Austrian Wedding
Whether Austria holds a special place in your heart or you’re simply captivated by its beauty, there’s no denying the romance of a wedding surrounded by the bluest of blue glacial lakes and the breathtaking, snow-capped peaks of the Alps. From its rich history to the awe-inspiring scenery, Austria is truly a magical and special place for such a special occasion.
When to Host an Austrian Wedding
Late spring, summer, or fall is, in my opinion, the ideal time to host a wedding in Austria if you’re not aiming for a super snowy, winter feel. During these seasons, you can enjoy the perfect weather and the breathtaking Austrian landscapes.
One of the things I absolutely love about Austria is its authentic charm. Despite being a popular tourist spot, it hasn’t quite reached the same level of crowds as places like Italy or France. This slightly under-the-radar quality gives Austria a unique and genuine vibe, making it feel less bustling and more relaxed compared to other destination locations. Choosing Austria for your wedding will surely create an authentic and memorable experience for you and your guests.
Where to Host Your Wedding
There are so many lovely places in Austria to celebrate your marriage. From the chic metropolitan vibe in Vienna or Salzburg to a more laid-back, one-with-nature approach on the shores of an alpine lake, there truly are countless amazing options.
Vienna and Salzburg both boast elaborate palaces, museums, and parks, many of which are absolutely perfect for a wedding. For a more regal experience, the Mirabell Palace is a popular and stunning location in Salzburg, while in Vienna, the Palais Albertina offers a regal and beautiful venue.
The southern and northern parts of Austria both feature mountainous, lake-filled regions that are ideal for a serene retreat. I highly recommend considering Villa Bulfon, a refined and classic venue located in southern Austria. The service there was truly exceptional. In northern Austria, the Schlosshotel Mondsee is a captivating, beautiful older castle that makes for an unforgettable wedding location.
