Helene and Jovan got married at Casa Cody, a beautifully preserved 1920s adobe hideaway tucked against the San Jacinto Mountains in Palm Springs, and from the moment I arrived I could tell this weekend was going to be something special. The desert light here is unlike anywhere else I shoot — warm and soft, with palm silhouettes and mountain ridgelines doing half the decorating for you. Helene is a nurse and Jovan covers sports for a living, and even with two demanding careers based in LA, they carved out a weekend that felt completely unhurried, full of family, and full of joy.

A Rehearsal Dinner Under the Desert Sky

The celebration kicked off the night before at Casa Cody itself, with the whole group gathered under string lights and old olive trees for a rehearsal dinner that set the tone for everything to come. There was wine, there was laughter, and there was a very sweet, very relaxed energy that told me this wedding weekend was going to be more about connection than performance.

Getting Ready

My favorite kind of morning is one where everyone is a little bit giddy, and this one delivered. The bridesmaids showed up in a gorgeous mix of citrus-toned dresses, Helene’s gown had the kind of quiet drama that photographs beautifully in black and white, and the groomsmen cleaned up sharp in classic black tuxedos. But the detail that had me smiling behind the camera all morning was this: Jovan’s son wore sneakers that matched his dad’s for the day, and watching Jovan lace them up for him before the ceremony is one of my favorite quiet moments from the whole wedding.

First Look & Portraits

Helene and Jovan’s portrait session might be my favorite part of any wedding day — it’s when the couple finally gets a few quiet minutes together after a morning of hair, makeup, and hugging every relative in sight. Against Casa Cody’s adobe walls and desert greenery, these two were completely unposed — laughing, running, stealing kisses between takes.

The Ceremony & Bridal Party

The bridesmaids twirled Helene’s dress into a circle just before the ceremony started, and then it was time. Helene and Jovan said their vows under the trees at Casa Cody, surrounded by the people who love them most, and walked back out as married people to cheers, raised arms, and a lot of happy tears.

Golden Hour & Reception

Casa Cody’s pool deck at golden hour, with the mountains glowing pink behind it, might be one of the most beautiful backdrops I’ve ever photographed a couple against. We snuck away for a few sunset portraits before the reception got going, and then came one of my favorite moments of the entire day: Jovan pulling his son onto the dance floor for a father-son dance, both of them still in those matching sneakers. Under the string lights, surrounded by family, it was the kind of moment that reminds you what weddings are actually about.

Helene and Jovan, thank you for having me out to the desert for this one. Congratulations to you both — and to that very stylish sneaker crew.
