Modern chic meets classic Southern with this gorgeous pink-themed wedding! Kristie and Taylor planned the perfect early summer soiree, picking the historic Holt House venue to host their friends and family and celebration their marriage. Kristie and Taylor met almost as soon as Kristie moved to North Carolina, and got engaged during a romantic weekend at Smith Mountain Lake in 2020. Despite having to plan a wedding during COVID, they set out to create an event that was filled with classic Southern elegance and that truly reflected who they were as a couple. Between the planning mastery of Carly Marie Events and the floral genius of Green Bee Floral Designs, the historic Holt House was transformed to host an absolutely magical wedding day. With plenty of pink (the bride’s favorite color) woven through the floral designs and the details of the day, and classic Southern traditions woven throughout the day such as the burying of the bourbon and Taylor’s bowtie, the couple truly managed to create a day that perfectly reflected their personalities!

Would you like to share anything about your wedding planning experience together? Is there any advice you’d love to give future couples about planning a wedding together?
The stay at home order was a blessing in disguise for us. We were able to be home the entire time of wedding planning so that we could make the decisions together. Here’s a little advice from both of us:
T: You might be able to save some money here and there by doing it yourself but it will also create a lot more work for you to do and logistics to figure out. Thankfully, we had a wedding planner and families who were very helpful throughout! Also, don’t feel bad about making self serving decisions. You won’t be able to make everyone happy and everyone will have an opinion. Ultimately, the day is about you and your spouse. Keep perspective that the marriage is what is most important – not the wedding itself.
K: Hire a wedding planner! Whether you have someone to help you for the entire journey, partial, or the weekend only, I would 100% recommend getting a planner or coordinator. At first, I wasn’t sure if I wanted a planner because I wanted to be involved in a lot of the decisions and planning. I am SO happy had Carly with us through almost our whole journey. Your planner will think of things you never thought to ask and a million other little details that may slip your mind. She or he will help keep everything organized for you so that you don’t have to stress on the most important day!
Any special moments leading up to your wedding that stand out to you?
A few things! I loved picking out the dress. I wanted my mom, nana, and Taylor’s mom to all be able to be a part of this, so we decided to at least take a look in Winston-Salem at Bellissima. I was totally not expecting to find anything, but ended up with the 5th or 6th dress I tried on! I’m glad both sides of the family were able to be a part of that.
If you could describe your wedding day in three words, what would they be?
Southern, elegant, us.
Which detail(s) did you like the most about your wedding? This could be an element of decor, something unique about the venue, something you hand crafted, etc.
I am completely in love with the florals from Green Bee. All the pretty pinks mixed back with the ginger jar rentals really made my dreams come true. The tent also looked gorgeous with the lights, farmhouse tables/chairs, and gold sequin cocktail tablecloths! I’ve always wanted a wedding at a big white house, so that couldn’t have been more perfect.
Do you have any tips to help other couples with the planning process, vendor selection, etc?
Do your research and don’t feel bad reaching out to ask questions or meet with potential vendors to see if they are a good fit for you. It’s YOUR day and you want to be surrounded by people who are going to help bring your vision to life.
If you could remember one thing from your wedding day 10 years from now, what would you hope it would be?
What a blast we had surrounded by our loved ones! We’ve had our friends and family tell us it’s one of the most fun weddings they have ever been to!
